Our Mission

The Utica Energy Alliance exists to advocate for and educate about the shale industry and its many benefits for Ohioans. We are the unified voice for landowners, businesses, community leaders and allies of the shale industry.

About the Utica Energy Alliance

Ohio’s shale industry creates economic opportunity, jobs, tax revenue and energy independence in a sustainable manner for our communities and state. The Utica Energy Alliance (UEA) works to preserve and promote these benefits. Shale industry activity benefits one of the most economically disadvantaged regions in the Midwest, making it especially crucial to the region’s future.

As the voice of the Utica Shale community, we seek to inform decision makers and stand together as a champion for American energy independence. Issues of environmental sustainability, energy independence, and economic impact are of utmost importance.

 
 

Our Why

The shale oil and natural gas industry provides manifold benefits to the state of Ohio. Not only is it essential to the mission of American energy independence, it impacts our local communities and economies every day.

  • Prior to the shale revolution in 2006, prices for natural gas in Ohio peaked at $10.66 and have steadily decreased to just under $4.*

  • More than 700 new businesses have been established statewide to support the shale industry, bringing in over $63.9 billion in new investments.*

  • In 2019, Ohio’s natural gas and oil industry:

    • Supported 375,000 total jobs (79,000 directly and 296,000 indirectly) -- 5.3 percent of Ohio’s total employment.

    • Generated an additional 3.8 jobs in other sectors of Ohio’s economy for each direct job in the state’s natural gas and oil industry.

    • Provided $24.7 billion in labor income ($6.5 billion directly and $18.2 billion indirectly) to Ohio, 5.9 percent of the state’s total.

    • Contributed $58.8 billion to Ohio’s gross domestic product ($29.2 billion direct and $29.6 billion indirect), equalling 8.5 percent of the state’s total.**
